Clive's Favorite Software
I confess to being one of those people who likes to
try out new software which probablly accounts
for why I need to rebuild my PC twice a year1
anyway here are some of my favorites
Jalbum - I think the best free album creating software I know -They have free hosting package too.
Fast Stone Capture - great software for capturing and editing screengrabs. I still have the free version but the latest one is unfortunately shareware though only only $20 inc lifetime upgradse
Paint.net - I really like this much easier to use than photoshop and free
Office 2007 - I know!! but actually I have tried all the open source products and none of them have the slick look and feel of this suite - the only part I dont like is Outlook (see next)
Media Player Classic this player is Free simple and does what I want it to do - no playlists or complications - can create thumnail indexes too (make sure you get 6.4.9.1 or higher for thumbnail feature)
Auslogic disc defrag - does a really good job of defragging hard drives, doesnt slow down your system while its working and its free - unfortunately manual only but scheduling is on their roadmap
Carbonite back up - unlimited space on line back up service - slow to do first back up but when complete works silently in the background - costs $49 pa - I have 52 gb backed up already and increasing - it is offsite back up and encrypted locally
Display Fusion - allows me to have different backgrounds on dual monitors - freeware
Logmein Free - extremely easy web based control of any number of remote desktops from anywhere - the free version however doesnt support file transfers - see next product
Home Page Avvenu.com - free easy file transfer programme sets up direct connection so you can browse your PC
